The How To Self Publish a Photobook Workshop is a great opportunity for people interested in publishing their own photography book to discover insider secrets. Workshop participants will be given all the necessary tools and insight that they will need to start self-publishing right away.

The course covers a variety of contemporary publishing models, from the zine to the traditional perfect-bound photography book. There will be theoretical and practical advice to help you with the editing, sequencing and design of publications. The course will bring insights from Ceschel’s long experience of how best to distribute and market work.

During the two-day intensive workshop each participant will present his or her own idea to the class and then bring their project to life using publishing software. The workshop ends with the presentation of participants’ newly designed photography books.

The workshop mixes group classes and one-to-one tutorials, and uses online tools so we can share photographic material and work on it together remotely.

This is a workshop for everyone who has an existing photographic series that they would like to make into a book.

This workshop has been hosted by organisations including Aperture Foundation, Photo LA (United States), La Fábrica (Spain), Offprint (France), MiCamera (Italy), Hydra (Mexico), Goliga (Japan) and in universities including the Maryland Institute College of Art (United States) and University of the Arts London (Britain).

Testimonials

The diversity of students brought fresh and differing opinions. Bruno’s sharp and sensitive diagnosis of the problems in my book project really pushed me in the final stage of editing. The fast pace of the course was unexpectedly liberating as it removed all inhibitions during the process of making.

I went into SPBH’s first 2-day online book editing workshop with an open mind and was genuinely impressed by the format. We all made great progress and felt supported by the SPBH team throughout but what was particularly rewarding and enjoyable was how we were actively encouraged to engage with and support each other’s project on both an intellectual and practical level.

- Matt Hind, How To Self Publish a Photobook with Bruno Ceschel attendee, November 2020

For the workshop, Zoom is a great platform to connect photographers near and far. I truly enjoyed the small class format, fostering a strong sense of community between all participants.
